Alex Tannenbaum, MD

Alex Tannenbaum, MD, is a resident physician in anatomic and clinical pathology at the University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics. Born and raised in Madison, WI, Dr. Tannenbaum completed both his undergraduate and medical education at the University of Wisconsin - Madison. Prior to medical school, Dr. Tannenbaum worked for several years in the research lab of stem cell pioneer Dr. Jamie Thomson. During his time as a medical student, he served as Chair of UW's Student Ethics Committee. He continued his involvement in clinical ethics throughout his medical training, and currently serves as a member of the UW Hospital Ethics Committee. Dr. Tannenbaum was awarded the very first Path of Distinction in Bioethics at UW School of Medicine and Public Health. He is also an active member of the Bioethics Network of the Upper Midwest (BENUM).

In addition to his bioethics involvement, Dr. Tannenbaum has a passion for medical education. He currently serves on the Association of Pathology Chairs Undergraduate Medical Education Committee (UMEC). He has been involved in research on topics in stem cell science, metabolic syndrome, surgical pathology, curriculum design, and ethical issues in pathology. Dr. Tannenbaum has a deep passion for all things ethics, pathology, and medical education.
